First Impressions 1992 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Heritage Edition

The 1992 Camaro is an important vehicle to Chevrolet for the convertible market segment. The Z28 Heritage Edition is a member of a series of four trim levels for the Camaro which include RS, RS Heritage Edition, Z28, and Z28 Heritage Edition. The two-door car with its rear-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Chevrolet. There is strong competition from vehicles from Kia.

Engine Performance

The Camaro Z28 Heritage Edition is equipped with a General Motors 5.0 liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The Chevrolet engine is mated to a Hydra-Matic 4-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Chevrolet.

The Camaro uses power-assisted brakes, with Non-ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering gear-style configuration. The car uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

The Camaro is 192.60 inches long, 72.40 inches wide, and 50.40 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 101.00 inches. It is able to seat 4 comfortably.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $12,075 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of an industry-low price. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Convertible.

Fuel Efficiency

Fuel is handled for the Camaro is a MPI design, running on gasoline fuel. The gasoline is handled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 15.50 gallons.

The Z28 Heritage Edition made 27 miles per gallon highway driving, while dipping to 17 – 18 in the city. This was a respectable number for the model year, but exceeded by several Kia models available at the time.
