Chevrolet introduced the Camaro Z28 in late 1997 to regain its grip on the Convertible market. There are 3 trim levels for the Camaro in 1998: Z28 SS and Base. With two doors and spacious seating for four, the rear-wheel drive Camaro makes a statement. There is plenty of competition in the Convertible market, including strong offerings from Acura.

The RS is a member of a series of five trim levels for the Camaro which include RS, Z28, Z28 30th Anniversary Edition, Z28 SS 30th Anniversary Edition, and Base. The two-door car with its rear-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Chevrolet. There is strong competition from vehicles from Honda.
